A bird-mimicking flapping-wing drone was classed as a bird by detection sensors at a US Air Force test event

Ornadyne demonstrated its O1 ornithopter, a drone that flaps semi-rigid wings instead of using propellers, at the "Game of Drones" test event on 14-18 September at Edwards Air Force Base, California. Chief executive Geourg Kivijian says the other companies' detection sensors could not identify it as a drone and registered it as a bird.

The account comes from the manufacturer, quoted in a US Air Force release published on 30 October. No detection rates or sensor types are given. The event was organised with the 412th Test Wing and the Defense Contract Management Agency's Blue List team.
