Norway's armed forces are placing air-surveillance sensors from the air-defence system in Kirkenes, in Finnmark, to detect drones that stray off course. About 30 soldiers will reinforce the Sør-Varanger garrison through the end of the year.

Defence minister Tore O. Sandvik said the deployment is preventive, based on experience of stray drones in other European countries, and that Norway does not see an elevated air threat now. Police remain responsible for handling illegal drone flights, with the armed forces assisting on request.
